Corazón Super Build

In just one day, you can change a family’s life in the most profound way. You can give them shelter, security, and and perhaps more importantly—you could give them hope. Each year the Rotary Club of Las Vegas West participates in the Corazon Super Build project in Tecate, Mexico and builds an eligible family a home, all in just one day! Many families live in shacks and improvised shelters, often with no paved flooring. Corazón gives well deserving families a solid, substantial 16×20 foot home to shelter and protect their loved ones.

In order to be placed on the waiting list for a house build, a family has to have completed a minimum of 500 community service hours and be an active Corazón participant. To be considered “active,” participants must contribute 15 hours a month of community service in order to receive benefits. In other words, the family committed itself to the Corazón program.

This is one of the clubs favorite programs. Many participant families join the Corazon Community out of a need of a home ,but they stay involved in the program for the numerous amounts of benefits and opportunities.

Fighting Polio

Former Microsoft chairman Bill Gates has pledged a total of $355 million to Rotary International’s efforts to eradicate polio. Rotarians have pledged to match that with a further $200 million within three years. To date, Rotarians have committed more than $60 million toward the original $100 million Gates challenge grant awarded in November 2007.

“The extraordinary dedication of Rotary members has played a critical role in bringing polio to the brink of eradication. Eradicating polio will be one of the most significant public health accomplishments in history, and we are committed to helping reach that goal.”

-Bill Gates

Polio Plus

PolioPlus is the most ambitious program in Rotary’s history. It aims at nothing less than eradicating the dreaded disease of polio from the world. For more than 20 years, Rotary has led the private sector in the global effort to rid the world of this crippling disease.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has given a challenge grant of $255 million to Rotary International’s efforts to eradicate polio worldwide.

Matching Grant

The challenge for Rotary International is to raise a matching $200 million within three years. Rotary is committed to that goal. Rotary will spend the initial $100 million within one year in direct support of immunization activities carried out by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, spearheaded by the World Health Organization, Rotary International, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and UNICEF.

The Rotary Club of Las Vegas West shares the goal of Rotary International to eradicate polio from the world. As one of more than 32,000 Rotary clubs around the world, Las Vegas West has accepted the challenge to help Rotary International match the $255 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation within three years. In addition, individual Las Vegas West Rotarians have pledged to join Rotary’s army of volunteers to actually give the drops of life in national immunization days in polio-endemic countries around the world.
